For the past few weeks, East Petersburg Mennonite Church has invited me to take a Transitional Break. This several week break was designed to give both me and the church a chance to own and mark my transition from Associate Pastor to Lead Pastor. This break started after Easter Sunday and stretches to Mother’s Day Sunday.
It has been a fruitful break and transition. Though the break has been good, I have deeply missed my sense of journey and mission with our neighborhood faith community. I look forward to returning this Sunday.
I would welcome you to visit us at East Petersburg Mennonite Church, as we strive to be a community that is learning to live and love like Jesus in East Petersburg, PA.
As you are might be aware, for the second week of my Transitional Break, I traveled to Orlando for the Exponential Conference. I have not had a good adventure in sometime, so traveling to Orlando by Amtrak was a great opportunity to reflect, read and rest. In attendance with me for Exponential Conference was my friend and overseer, Keith Blank. We were able to attend the pre-conference, in addition to the conference. It was a weekend full of power conversations, inspiring workshops and challenging messages. Much of what we discussed in workshops and main sessions were timely messages for where we are at as a family, and at East Petersburg Mennonite Church. The weather in Orlando was great. The evenings allocated me time to explore and find solace. In that time I was able to explore the Orlando Eye, Madame Tussauds, Clear Lake Park and the SeaLife Aquarium.
Upon returning from Orlando, I took my third week to really focus on some small projects here at home. Most importantly, I was able to conquer both my e-mail’s inbox; some piles of stuff and the weeding and planting of my spring flowerbeds. There is still a little more mulching and vegetables to be planted, but things are coming together. We’ve enjoyed dreaming through some backyard projects to come. I am certainly looking forward to warmer weather for more opportunities of grilling and firepit nights.
Also, I have been focused on building a small hobby studio in our basement. Though I have not begun any building projects (drywalling, etc); I have started to order and piece together the equipment. This would give me both the ability to record podcasts, small musical projects, hi-res videos and backgrounds for photographs. The girls have enjoyed some of the special lighting and even the addition of a small fog machine. You can follow our progress along on instagram. As time allows, I’ve been busy planning some new podcast show ideas.
This past weekend, we were busy with the 8th Annual Vagabond’s Car Show in the East Petersburg Community Park. This event was scheduled for Saturday, but the looming rain chased us to Sunday. Despite the ugly weather, we still had a great event, with good food and some awesome classic cars on display. Our town’s events are a great way to bring community to our small town. As a follower of Jesus, I love being not only present at these events, but also invested and involved. You can look through some photographs I took of the event on our Facebook.
This week, I am busy preparing for Sunday. This Sunday at East Petersburg Mennonite Church, I am preaching on Spiritual Parenting, as well as starting a new series on Galatians (INSIDE AND OUTSIDE), in “The Living Room”, during our Sunday School hour. It will be good to be back! I am grateful for this Transitional Break, but looking forward to return with great expectation and anticipation.
